Spinach Handbook

Stock Solutions
Two concentrated stock mixtures are prepared and added to RO water to produce concentrated, full strength, stock solutions. Two separate stock solutions are prepared to prevent precipitation of solids from the solution.

Stock A
These chemicals are added to 300 L of RO water.

Potassium Nitrate

6132.0 g

Calcium Nitrate*4H2O

29160.0 g

Ammonium Nitrate

840.0 g

Sprint 330 Iron - DTPA (10% Iron)

562.0 g

Stock B
These chemicals are added to 300 L of RO water.

Potassium Nitrate

20378.0 g

Monopotassium Phosphate

8160.0 g

Potassium Sulfate

655.0 g

Magnesium Sulfate*7H2O

7380.0 g

Manganese Sulfate*H2O

33.5 g

Zinc Sulfate*7H2O

21.5 g

Boric Acid

55.8 g

Copper Sulfate*5H2O

5.6 g

Sodium Molybdate*2H2O

3.6 g

The nutrient solution used to grow the hydroponic spinach was derived from the above listed full strength stock solutions.  Equal volume parts of stock A and B solutions were diluted 200 times with RO water before the mixture was delivered to the plant roots.  Estimated EC and pH of the dilted nutrient solution are 1.2 mS/cm and 5.8, respectively.
