sustainable firewood

When it comes to outdoor gatherings, the flickering glow of a bonfire adds warmth and ambiance. However, the environmental impact of traditional bonfires often goes unnoticed. The source of your firewood plays a crucial role in determining the ecological footprint of your bonfire nights. In this context, the choice of a responsible firewood supplier can make a significant difference.

Flamig Farm is a supplier of various earth products including sustainable firewood. Choosing the right firewood supplier is essential to have responsible bonfire nights. Sustainable firewood refers to wood that is sourced and harvested in an environmentally responsible manner, prioritizing the long-term health of forests and ecosystems.

The Impact of Traditional Bonfires

Traditional bonfires, while enjoyable, can contribute to deforestation and air pollution. environmental impact of cars

Transportation plays a vital role in our daily lives. As commuters and car owners, it’s essential to address the environmental impact of cars. As concerns about climate change and sustainable living continue to grow, individuals, businesses, and governments increasingly recognize the need for greener alternatives. Spread awareness about sustainable vehicle use through car guest posts. Sharing this awareness can help improve sustainability and protect our environment. Let’s explore the challenges and opportunities in unlocking the road to sustainability and mitigating the environmental impact associated with cars.

The Environmental Challenge

Rising Carbon Emissions

The automotive industry has contributed significantly to the rising levels of carbon emissions, a major driver of climate change. As cars rely predominantly on fossil fuels, such as gasoline and diesel, the combustion process releases greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), into the atmosphere. The accumulation of these emissions has led to a significant increase in global temperatures, causing adverse effects on our environment.

Air Pollution and Public Health

Cars also contribute to air pollution, with harmful pollutants like nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) being released into the air. The release of these pollutants not only degrades air quality but also poses severe health risks, especially in densely populated areas. Respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases, and even premature deaths have been linked to long-term exposure to vehicular emissions.

Depletion of Natural Resources

The production and usage of cars rely heavily on the consumption of natural resources. The extraction of raw materials, such as metals and plastics, contributes to deforestation, habitat destruction, and other ecological imbalances. Additionally, the energy-intensive manufacturing processes required to build cars further strain our limited energy resources.

Sustainable Furniture: Eco-friendly For Homes

September 29, 2022 0

How environmentally friendly is your own home? Sustainability is the hot topic these days. With eco design, more manufacturers and shops are showing how chic, modern, and functionally sustainable furniture is. Compromises in terms of quality, style and design are no longer necessary here. Sustainable furniture combines these points much more and shows how fashionable environmental protection can appear.

Why sustainable gaming furniture at all?

More and more interior brands from the high-end segment are specializing in sustainable furniture. The reason for this is the increasing customer need for modern, aesthetic designs that meet the needs of environmental protection. This is how sustainable furniture is produced under the new values of the contemporary understanding of luxury. They focus on quality instead of quantity and customer satisfaction instead of maximizing profits. The brands assure that they act socially and sustainably along the entire value chain. They deal consciously with the people, environment, and nature.

Sustainable furniture for your own four walls

The use of natural materials

Whether cork, wood, or stone, sustainable furniture must consist of natural materials and textiles. These are more ecologically friendly in their production. As soon as the sustainable furniture is in your own four walls, the production from organic materials is an advantage. In addition to more sustainable value creation, these are also healthier. It is always important to protect threatened resources, while recycled materials that are not 100% natural can also provide a productive foundation for sustainable furniture.

gaming equipment

Must-have for sustainable gaming furniture: Eco-friendly and ethical value creation and production

So that you can truly speak of holistically ecological furniture, the material must not only be preferably organic, but also ecologically grown and processed. This means using raw materials responsibly from value creation to production.

In addition to guarding the environment, the production of sustainable furniture must also assure the protection of people. This means pollution-free, fair working conditions, and therefore health-friendly workplaces. Know-how, manual work, and traditional craftsmanship are the focus of many producers of sustainable furniture.

Durability means sustainability

One aspect that is often overlooked when looking for sustainable furniture is durability. Quality rather than quantity is what counts here. If something is built to last or can be easily repaired, it’s less likely to be thrown away. Before making a purchase, it makes sense to check whether the manufacturer guarantees a long service life and offers replacement parts or refurbishment programs.

How To Grill In An Environmentally Friendly Way

July 10, 2022 0

Barbecuing is one of the most popular summer pastimes for many people. But even when barbecuing, you release harmful CO₂ into the atmosphere and pollutes the environment.

Tips on how to reduce CO₂ footprint when grilling

Choose an eco-friendly grill

At a convivial barbecue evening in nature, people often use a cheap disposable barbecue. However, the manufacturing process of the aluminium shells alone causes large amounts of climate-damaging CO₂. In addition, the remains are often left behind in nature and pollute the environment.

A reusable grill is the better choice both for on the go and for the garden at home. The charcoal grill is by far the most popular. However, in addition to climate-damaging CO₂, grilling with charcoal also produces numerous other pollutants such as fine dust. This not only harms the environment but also health. Therefore, gas or electric grills are the better alternatives. You must read a pellet grill review before buying one.

These also offer the advantage that they are easy to regulate. This reduces energy consumption compared to charcoal grills. Those who operate their electric grill with green electricity reduce additional emissions.

pellet grill review

Use sustainable fuels

If you don’t want to do without the classic charcoal grill, you should pay attention to the selection of the right fuel. Even if charcoal appears to be sustainable as a renewable raw material, every second charcoal contains valuable tropical wood and thus causes considerable damage to the environment.

You should pay attention to grill lighters. Alcohol and other chemical grill lighters are not good choices. There are environmentally friendly alternatives, for example, made of corrugated cardboard, corn cobs or wood fibres.

Grill vegetables instead of meat

If you want to grill in a climate-friendly way, you should therefore put more vegetables on the grid instead of meat. Many supermarkets also offer a wide range of plant-based meat alternatives. Plant-based sausages and steaks such as soy or wheat provide variety. If you don’t want to do without meat, you can still make a conscious choice. Beef causes a particularly large amount of CO₂ compared to poultry. The main reason for this is the climate-damaging feed production for animal husbandry.

Avoid packaging waste

Barbecue evenings often produce particularly large amounts of packaging waste. At first glance, paper plates, plastic cutlery and disposable bottles are practical companions and save you the hassle of washing up. Just like disposable barbecues, however, they are difficult to degrade in nature and are often left carelessly on meadows and in parks. For the sake of the environment, you should therefore avoid disposable plastic dishes.

Ecological Gaming: Scripting League Of Legends

April 1, 2022 0

The climate crisis is omnipresent and is working its way into all areas of everyday life. Anyone who thinks that only the big industrialists and motorists have anything to do with this topic is wrong. Everyone can do something to protect the environment and reduce energy consumption. Even in the gaming scene, responsible and environmentally conscious scripting League of Legends is gaining more space.

Scripting League of Legends: How can you do your part to save energy?

Turn off devices

As with many other devices, the standby function is well thought out, but the electronic device still consumes power. Gamers should take care to turn off their devices properly.

Adapt accessories to requirements

It is interesting that the different devices consume different amounts of electricity. The PC is at the top of the list with the highest consumption. Consoles and laptops, on the other hand, consume much less power. Cell phones are even better. The best gaming platforms have optimized their offers in such a way that they can also be played on small devices.

Disable shaders

Many manufacturers use shaders for an absolutely realistic gaming experience. However, this function draws off some extra energy. If possible, you should disable shaders.

Efficient screen

If you don’t want to do without the PC for gaming, you should pay attention to energy-efficient screens. Particularly large screens in LCD quality or as a 4K model consume a particularly large amount of power. With a regular, energy-efficient monitor, a lot can be done for the environment and your own energy balance.

Decrease frame rate

If you don’t require a high screen frequency, you should turn it down.  You can already save a lot of energy with these small settings. According to experts, some games should be given a warning signal when a particularly large amount of power is required.

Cheap is not always cheapscripting League of Legends

As the saying goes, if you buy cheap, you buy twice. At first glance, cheap purchases seem much more attractive than expensive PC and game components. However, the most important point for reducing power consumption is the efficiency class, with which the monitor, for example, is equipped. Models with a higher purchase price are only more expensive at first. Over time, the purchase will pay off due to the lower power consumption.

A few small changes can have a big impact. If each of the millions of gamers does their part, they can notiecably reduce the energy consumption. Both the gaming industry and players have a responsibility to use resources carefully and sustainably.

Climate Protection in Traffic

January 4, 2022 0

traffic-climate

Mobility is an integral part of everyday life. However, transportation is also one of Germany’s largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions. To meet the requirements of the Paris Climate Protection Agreement and the goals of the 2030 Federal Climate Protection Act, German transport needs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions quickly and significantly over the next few years.

The role of transport in Germany’s greenhouse gas emissions

In 2019, the transport sector will be involved in approximately 164 million tonnes of greenhouse gases (CO 2 equivalent, represented by CO 2 eq), the greenhouse effect of the gas. Contributed 20% to. Emissions in Germany as well. This relative share has increased by 7 percentage points compared to 1990. This makes transportation the only sector that has failed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the last few decades. Only the corona pandemic resulted in a short-term reduction in emissions. Measures related to the blockade reduced traffic emissions from traffic to approximately 146 million tonnes of CO 2 eq in 2020. This is a preliminary estimate by UBA .

Climate protection goals in the transport sector

According to the Federal Climate Protection Act (KSG), greenhouse gas emissions from transport must be equivalent to 85 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030. Compared to 2019, the amount of reduction has been almost halved (48%). According to the Climate Protection Act, Germany needs to neutralize greenhouse gases by 2045. This could mean zero greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. From the perspective of the Federal Environment Agency, Germany’s greenhouse gas emissions should be reduced by at least 70% by 2030 and by at least 90% by 2040 compared to 1990.

Missing Target: Reference Development

Due to climate protection measures currently being decided by politicians, greenhouse gas emissions in traffic will be approximately 126 million tonnes by 2030, according to current forecast reports by the Federal Government (see post on how to buy Reddit upvotes). It can be reduced by CO2 conversion. This means that the transportation sector will meet its 85 million tonnes CO2 conversion target. It is equivalent to more than 40 million tons of CO2. At the same time, extrapolation reports will exceed emission targets set by federal climate protection legislation for individual years through 2030. This puts pressure on politicians to adopt the transport sector and accelerate all-climate protection measures.

If hiking is an integral part of your life, make sure that your hiking equipment is of good quality. High-quality products are made for frequent use in wind and weather and are therefore particularly durable.

The Truth About Gold Behind Your Jewelry

December 6, 2021 0

Many ladies adore gold jewelry. From that gold college ring to that Butterfly Necklace around your neck. But do you know the impact of mining gold on the environment? The sacrifice that many people have to go through to mine that gold and bring it to the market?

Gold is one of the most valuable precious metals on earth – and also one of the most sought-after. It is easy to shape, corrosion-resistant and has a high symbolic power. The watch and jewelery industry in particular dominates the demand for gold, but gold is also in great demand in the financial and technology sectors. But the mining of gold is accompanied by conflicts and enormous risks, primarily including the devastating direct and indirect consequences for the environment. The WWF calls for increased use of recycled gold and a massive reduction in global gold mining.

Behind the sparkle of your jewelry is the ugly truth of gold mining

How much gold is still hidden where in the earth cannot be said with certainty. What is certain, however, is that its dismantling will become more and more complex. An estimated 54,000 tons of gold deposits , which can be mined with the current technical means, are currently known worldwide. The largest gold deposits are in Canada, South Africa, USA, Australia, Russia, Chile, China, Indonesia, Mexico and Papua New Guinea. 3,300 tons of gold are extracted from ores annually.

Direct and indirect risks to the environment

Wherever gold is digged, forests have to give way – gold mining therefore leads to a loss of biodiversity through deforestation and water contamination. This is because highly toxic chemicals such as arsenic, mercury and cyanide are often used to mine gold, and gold deposits are often found together with radioactive materials such as uranium – as a result of mining, all of these toxic substances find their way into the air, soil and water . The contamination spreads along the food chain and ultimately endangers the local people.

A study by WWF Brazil shows that many edible fish in the Amazon are extremely contaminated with mercury and other heavy metals . The mercury content of the fish varies depending on the region and fish species, but in around a third of the samples the values were well above the limits set by the World Health Organization. The poisoning of the fish goes back to the illegal gold mining in the Amazon region. This is dangerous for the people of the Amazon, because their main source of protein is fish.

In addition to these direct effects on the environment, there are also numerous indirect dangers: The mining of gold damages ecosystems in the long term, because access roads, hydropower plants, ports and settlements have to be built in order to enable mining in the often remote regions . This primary infrastructure leads in the short term to the establishment of illegal settlements, illegal logging and poaching . In the medium term, this increases the likelihood of the spread of formal settlements, agriculture and many other economic activities with all their effects.

SEO Solution For Eco-Friendly Businesses

November 13, 2021 0

Many eco-friendly businesses know the idea behind SEO and its importance. While most companies think that SEO is limited to keyword-based content, this is not the case. SEO is a challenging task that requires a lot of hard work. And this is not focused on just keywords.

It is also important that the kind of SEO approach to be used is modified and adjusted with the trend. Many green businesses miss good SEO practices and fail to maintain them. Thus, eco-friendly businesses should have a good SEO approach and should know how to manage it well.

Renewed SEO Strategy

An excellent SEO approach for any ecologically friendly business entails creating website content centered on its subject. Influenced by this, Google could serve searchers’ demands and consequently improve websites position. These are generally the steps to apply a strong digital strategy for the top SEO technique that fulfills current requirements and algorithms utilized by Google.

Establish Reasonable Objectives and Find The best based on Statistics

Keyword/s targeting may present two issues – It may be very competitive, or it may be not searchable. You have to seek the help of specialist analytical applications like SEMrush to actually understand the scenario and select key terms appropriately. Establishing reasonable targets is likewise crucial. It is better to enhance the general position of all your web pages, instead of targeting the top rank using only your home page.

Use an SEO-optimized Title

The majority of green companies contain their brand in the title space. Although that could be a great way to boost branding, it may use valuable space for your title. If your brand/name has 4-5 characters, then that could be okay. Anything longer than that is not okay. Change your business brand with important key terms and ensure they show up at the start of the title. This makes certain that the major search engines do not remove the part of the title that contains the keyword when matching with search queries.

In case you are focusing on green keywords, you have to list all of them in the titles of these pages. You will definitely get more traffic by making use of keywords like “eco-friendly” or “green” before your product rather than the common keywords variations.

Think About Your Options on Link Building

Link-building is among the most crucial after putting together your web pages. Link-building is an approach to improve the number of links going back to your websites. It can be achieved by using many ways. You could begin small and swap links with small businesses and organizations. You could even submit guest posts to bloggers within your niche. Additionally, it is advised that you promote your site on social networking sites like LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, or even Twitter. Your chance to be featured by influencers has a greater chance. The good news is that link building could be easier for green companies. This is mainly because most publishers would like to work with brands that are focused on the environment.

SEO is Essential to Eco-Friendly Businesses. Establishing your standing as a green business is important. Using a strong SEO approach can make it simpler.

Pet Product Rebates: Pets and Their Environment

November 6, 2021 0

For your dog, everyday human life often means being exposed to permanent stressful situations. Smart Shopper: How to let your pet avoid a stressful environment

Just like humans, stress can only rarely be avoided in dogs. Therefore it is important to create a balance for him.

For your dog, the cosy home in which he feels safe and secure is the best way to simply relax and unwind after an exciting and tiring day. In this place, he is with the family members he knows, trusts, loves and feels loved by. Here he has his permanent place and can also withdraw from time to time if he needs a little rest or space.

Walks on the nearby lake are the ideal opportunity for your dog to let off steam while playing and to reduce accumulated negative energies. In other words, he has the need to really let off steam. Then he feels balanced and relaxed and can enjoy his pleasant exhaustion slumbering in the basket.

Smart shopper: Stress-free environment for your pets

Your dog, therefore, needs a permanent place in the “pack”.  Smart shopperThis gives him the most security when he knows that he does not have to fight for ranking or pack leadership. Life in his pack should be characterized by trust, protection, solidarity and be able to rely on the other. Dogs are like children and you offer them this environment.

The keeper is the alpha animal who cares for the well-being of the family, protects them and ensures harmony. In this way, the dog builds a bond with its master similar to how young wolves develop to their parents or pack leaders in nature. This leadership role is never questioned by your dog as you provide protection, food, etc.

Today’s dog has a pronounced play instinct and only has weakened wild instincts. This is why he easily subordinates himself within your family if these clear structures are imposed on him. He doesn’t even consider it necessary to fight for rankings. Another essential factor to de-stress the dog.

How To Use Your TV More Sustainably

September 27, 2021 0

No TV set runs without power. This applies not only to an active operation but also to the standby modes of the devices.

TV sets cannot function without electricity, but this does not mean that you cannot save electricity when using them. You can make your environmental contribution with your abonnement iptv subscription.

Power consumption of a television

Especially with a planned new acquisition, you should keep in mind how much electricity the desired model needs. On average, contemporary models consume between 100 and 150 watts. Compared to other devices in the household, such as a computer, televisions are therefore less expensive. However, that does not mean that there is no longer any potential for savings here. If you pay attention to the following points, you can still save electricity in every household despite having an active TV.

Save electricity and the environment: Get rid of standby mode

abonnement iptv

If you also want to save electricity, you should either deactivate the standby mode in the settings of your TV or use a power strip with a switch. This can be conveniently switched off overnight, thus preventing the TV set from drawing further power. Today’s models are much more energy efficient in their standby modes than their predecessors. However, there are annual costs that can be avoided.

OLED panels need the standby mode for their screen maintenance in order to counteract the burn-in effect and to eliminate afterimages. Owners of OLED TVs should therefore ensure that the devices are given the opportunity to carry out such cleaning in standby mode after watching TV. This ensures that the new television will also provide the necessary performance in the long term.

Buy TVs with low consumption as your environmental contribution

In fact, where the most money and power savings can be made is choosing the right device. A look at the energy certificate of the desired model as well as the manufacturer’s information quickly reveals the power consumption of the favoured device. In the meantime, manufacturers have recognized the desire for less energy consumption. They are therefore investing more and more in technologies that deliver more performance with lower power consumption.

How Our Home Environment Affects Our Health

How did you decorate these spaces? Annie Detheux, habitat therapist, and Stéphanie Verryken, psychotherapist highlight these energies of life on the bright side!

Health is influenced by stress, by our emotions which are directly correlated with our relationships. The big changes at the family level are also imprinted in our decor! Our emotional interior is reflected in our interior habitat! Two intersecting universes. An imbalance within the couple, the divorce of the parents, a separation with his twin – his twin, a new boyfriend – girlfriend, the death of the spouse, of a loved one, a marriage, so many situations that have repercussions on our health, on our energies, on our decoration and vibratory rates!

It is wood and the color green that symbolize these energies of family and health! What color and what material does your interior vibrate? Placing the bed, armchair, sofa, insecure places, in the right position facing the cardinal points to balance the vibratory rate is already essential. The bed, for example, the head towards the North or the North East with a solid wall behind the headboard. Avoid having your feet right in front of the door. For the sofa, the idea is to position it against a solid wall to feel protected and to avoid having the door right next to it. Mobile Rokkr App, Internet and the Environment

August 27, 2021 0

Your digital life needs more and more energy and raw materials. But it also brings opportunities for the environment and the climate.Rokkr url code

Cell phones are an example of how important the internet is today. There are countless ways to exchange digital information over the web. Without this technology, your everyday life would be different. Most companies could not function without office PCs or cloud data centres. You can watch TV through Rokkr url code on your phone anywhere.

And new applications and devices are constantly being added, for example, voice assistants and virtual reality.

This leads to problems for the environment because digitization devours large amounts of energy and raw materials. Through electricity consumption, it releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

But there are also opportunities for the environment. With digital technology, they can save greenhouse gases, for example.

How the life of a cell phone relates to the environment

The effects are great because it is already about a lot of technology, a lot of energy and a lot of raw materials. The internet is growing very, very quickly. The data traffic multiplies within a few years.

In addition to cell phones, there are countless other Internet-enabled devices. Some of these are laptops, PCs, game consoles, smartwatches, voice assistants and internet-enabled televisions. In companies, machines, measuring devices and sensors are connected to the Internet. Experts have to know how these devices affect the environment.

Mobile Rokkr app: Opportunities for the environment

On the one hand, digitization requires energy and raw materials. On the other hand, it offers many opportunities to save energy and raw materials. People can also use these for environmental and nature conservation.

Are digitization Mobile Rokkr app and environmental protection compatible?

It has not yet been decided whether digitization is more damaging to the environment overall or whether the advantages are greater.

In order to avoid damage, the increasing demand for technology and performance must no longer lead to increased consumption of raw materials and energy. So far, the two have been closely related.

IT companies can do a lot to protect the environment in the future. This includes building energy-saving data centres, using electricity from renewable energies and developing products that people can repair and recycle.

Politics can create incentives for the economic use of raw materials and energy.

How Sustainable Are Electrical Devices Like Power Tools?

July 4, 2021 0

If you think more carefully how many electrical devices or tools you have bought in the last decade, you might be amazed. If we’re honest, we replace some devices faster than we’d like. There is also a new model for each of these pieces every year.

Who wouldn’t want a new vacuum cleaner with better cleaning results? Or the best electric chainsaw? In general, it can be said that electrical devices and tools are not particularly sustainable if you buy a new model every year or every two years. Most of them want nothing more than a durable device which you can still use in ten years. We have summarized all information on the topic of sustainability in electrical devices and tools.

Electrical Devices Energy Use

Why we regularly replace electrical appliances

The idea of buying a new electrical appliance is usually not without reason. The new purchase happens for a variety of reasons :

  • The old device is defective.
  • There is a new model with more functions on the market.
  • Spare parts to repair the defect are not available.
  • The guarantee has expired.

In terms of warranty, consumers usually always have the advantage that they can return their devices and power tools to the store and either receive a free repair or receive a new device. Unfortunately, it is often the case that the brand does not offer any spare parts with which a repair would be very easy to carry out.

In the end, most users decide to buy a new one. Because it is not infrequently suggested by industry that only new devices are excellent.

Problems related to the sustainability of various devices

Unfortunately, there are a few very typical problems on the market that have a negative impact on the sustainability of the devices. We have already mentioned that no spare parts are available. But what other reasons are there for the lack of sustainability?

  • Cheap production costs: Many manufacturers mainly focus on quantity, but no longer on quality. A good example of this is the low cost of skilled labor.
  • Use of raw materials that pollute the environment: In addition to toxins and heavy metals, there are other substances that are laborious to break down, but which cannot be properly disposed of.
  • The deliberate use of inferior materials in order to drastically shorten the shelf life: There are more and more institutions against this handling that demand more sustainability on this point and consider new regulations to be appropriate. This includes, for example, the Federal Environment Agency (UBA).

Caution: A very good example of the lack of sustainability of materials that pollute the environment are ordinary batteries. Admittedly, a power tool with a rechargeable battery is much more popular these days than the variant with a cable. However, the production of the battery is by no means sustainable. They mostly contain lithium and cobalt.

How do you recognize a sustainable electrical device / tool?

Fortunately, these days there are more and more initiatives promoting the production of sustainable devices . Even when buying, it is therefore possible to select according to certain criteria and make the right decision.

These labels, for example, distinguish devices that meet special sustainability criteria:

  • Blue Angel: Identifies products that contain only small amounts of harmful substances. Electrical devices that have been awarded this mark are particularly energy-efficient.
European eco-label: Here, the entire life cycle of the electrical device is scrutinized, from manufacture to disposal. The product must meet sustainable requirements and offer good energy efficiency.
  • TCO label / Energy Star label: Specially designed for office equipment that meets sustainable requirements and is energy-efficient.

Another tip is that if you have any doubts, you can contact the manufacturer of a particular product at any time to obtain more information about its sustainability.

Advantages and disadvantages of sustainability in electrical devices / tools

Finally, let’s summarize the advantages and disadvantages of sustainable electrical appliances:

Advantages

  • Most sustainable devices can be used for a long time.
  • Often they can also be repaired in the event of a defect.
  • All conditions during production are also regulated sustainably.

Disadvantage

For many people, certain electrical devices or tools are a veritable status symbol, which is why they always buy a new one. You will struggle to be sustainable when buying a new one.

Green web hosting: Better to go online with green electricity servers

July 2, 2021 0

The Internet devours energy. In Germany alone, data centers consume a good two percent of all electricity. So it’s better if we choose green web hosting. But does that even exist? If you are looking to compare web hosting providers, SuperBhosts could be among the right places to check.

The Internet and Electricity consumption

According to the IT industry association Bitkom, around 50,000 data centers were running in Germany alone in 2015, with a typical data center of 1,000 square meters using around 5.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. The Borderstep sustainability institute put the energy demand of data centers in 2016 at 12.4 billion kilowatt-hours ( PDF) for Germany – as much as four medium-sized coal-fired power plants – and at 287 billion kWh worldwide. The Blue Angel is a little more conservative: In 2014 it estimated that German data centers consume around 9.1 billion kWh per year.

Other estimates assume that in a few years, information technologies will have a greater impact on the environment than air traffic. The corona pandemic is currently accelerating this development: People travel less – and surf more.

Green web hosting: servers with green electricity

We took a look around and found green web hosts. The result in a nutshell: Everyone who runs a website already has the choice between conventional hosts – and those that work with green electricity.

In general: Economical data centers and climate neutralization are good – but it would be better if the electricity itself was eco-friendly and therefore climate-neutral. Ideally, of course, from providers who are actively promoting the energy transition.

Identifying features for green web hosts?

Unfortunately, there are currently no clear identifiers for green web hosting providers. Therefore, the following are recommendations:

  • With the web hosting offer, make sure that the electricity provider used is clearly stated.
  • Make sure that the green electricity provider named by the web host is recommended – for example by the Utopia best list or by EcoTopTen .
  • Pay attention to other, clearly communicated efforts of the web host to work more sustainably.
  • Avoid web hosting companies that do not use green electricity or do not make it clear where exactly their green electricity comes from.

The sustainability effects are correspondingly large if we switch to energy-efficient systems and green electricity here too. Of course, electronics itself also has some catching up to do when it comes to sustainability (raw material extraction, production, disposal, …) – and it is still a long way from “Green IT”. But that shouldn’t prevent us from leaving our money with providers who are already setting a good example.

Mistakes That Can Ruin Slides about Environment

May 21, 2021 0

A successful presentation follows clear rules. Many individual aspects must be considered in order to achieve the best success. It starts with the correct preparation of the environmental topics, and ends with the professional presentation. All of this takes a lot of time and should therefore be worthwhile. Unfortunately, there are a lot of pitfalls on the way to the perfect presentation that can seriously affect or even completely ruin the end result.

Slides mistake 1: you haven’t checked the tech for your presentation about the environment

When you step in front of your audience and struggle with technology first, this is the worst possible start to a successful presentation. Your presentation needs to be easy to see for your audience and you need to be heard clearly. If you start your presentation by looking for the switch for the light, looking for the presentation on your computer and doing a soundcheck, it is an imposition for your audience. It casts a bad light on you and causes displeasure among people who want to convince you with your presentation right away.

Slides mistake 2: You are not pursuing clear goals with your slides about the environment

google slides themes

Creating a good presentation regarding the environment takes a lot of time. What do you want to achieve with your slide presentation? What messages, information, and recommendations do you want to convey with your presentation? If the goals are not clear, the results will be more random in nature.

Regardless of whether your goals are to convince the customer to buy environmentally friendly products or to inspire the audience and put them in a great mood, you should make sure that these goals are clearly presented in your presentation.

Slides mistake 3: You do your slides about the environment without graphics, images, and animations

There are still many plain text presentations out there. This not only looks boring, but at some point, your auditorium will no longer want to follow the presentation. Images or graphics help you to grasp complex information faster and better.

So, if you want your presentation to be successful, you should definitely avoid big mistakes.

Cleaning Buildings With Environmentally Friendly Products | CPR Facade Upgrades

May 14, 2021 0

Chemical cleaning agents pollute the environment and, if handled incorrectly, are also harmful to health. Even with just a few natural household products, the entire apartment from inside and out (through building rope access) can be cleaned sustainably and ecologically.

Everyday washing, cleaning and cleaning in private households places a heavy burden on the environment. Due to the ubiquity of chemical cleaning agents, the pollution of the waste water is significantly underestimated. 630,000 tons of detergents pollute Germany’s waste water from private households alone every year. In the long term, cleaning is easier than you think and in addition it is even cheaper.

Benefits – Why sustainable cleaning?

Cleaning with ecological cleaning agents and a sustainable cleaning behavior has several advantages:

  • Less harmful to health: The inhalation of vapors or spray mists of cleaning agents during cleaning cannot be avoided. Studies have now shown that this can have consequences.
  • Environmental resources are saved: Sustainable cleaning agents are more resource-efficient, as the raw material petroleum plays an important basis for the production of most chemical cleaning agents. This also applies to the surfactants contained in detergents and cleaning agents. These bind or dissolve substances and are therefore an essential component of detergents.
  • Less of a burden on the environment: In addition to surfactants, waste water is also heavily polluted by many other synthetic substances, such as fragrances, dyes and preservatives. Often, a large proportion of these substances are not biodegradable.
  • Many sustainable cleaning agents are even cheaper than their chemical relatives. Soda, soda, vinegar or citric acid, for example, are also sold in very large quantities for less than 10 euros.
  • Better for allergy sufferers, as especially fragrances and dyes in chemical cleaning agents often contain allergens.

Many natural home remedies have strong cleansing effects in certain areas. If you have these basic home remedies in your household and know the effects, you should even be able to do without chemical cleaning agents completely when cleaning in your home. The following sustainable home funds should therefore not be missing in any household:

Soda

Soda (sodium carbonate) is a naturally occurring salt that is closely related to soda. It is available in retail, usually in powder form, as “washing soda” or “pure soda”. The application possibilities are manifold, because soda has above all a fat-dissolving effect and thus also greasy surfaces get clean. In combination with other household products, even effective detergents and detergents can be produced themselves.

Vinegar or citric acid

Especially in combination with warm water, vinegar or citric acid even dissolve stubborn calcifications in no time and are therefore ideal as a sustainable alternative for chemical cleaning agents. Particularly in the bathroom, vinegar and citric acid are a great help, as both tiles and windows and mirrors can be cleaned here. If you put calcified objects in warm water with some vinegar or citric acid, you can literally watch the lime dissolve by itself.

Lubricating Soap (Green Soap)

The lubricating soap (or green soap) consists of animal or vegetable fats and is therefore a sustainable cleaning agent. Dirt and greases are better bound in the rinsing water with lubricating soap, which makes the agent versatile. Mixed with soda and water, it replaces the detergent very well, for example. In addition to core soap, lubricating soap is also ideal for use in washing machines, depending on textiles and combination with other home remedies.

Core Soap

Core soap is the sustainable soap in solid form. It is also obtained from “inferior fats” (animal and/or vegetable). Depending on the recipe, it can also be used to make detergents for the washing machine or the dishwasher in powder form with other household products.

Organic Pest Control: Good for the Environment

April 27, 2021 0

If pests have found their way into the garden or house, the first thought is to combat them with chemicals. Finally, chemical agents can be used to kill pests very effectively. But this does not always make sense. Nowadays, there are much more environmentally friendly and organic pest control means to protect yourself from pests and to drive them away again.

Chemical pest control means can damage humans, pets and the environment

Many chemical agents can also be used by private individuals. The agents should only work specifically against the pests and be as good as harmless to other organisms.

organice pest control

Yet this is a promise that most chemical control agents cannot redeem. Although these are not immediately life-threatening for humans in the usual concentration, they can still cause damage over a longer period of time or if used incorrectly.

Certain agents that are used in the house can lead to allergies or other irritations. If these are inhaled over a longer period of time, this can lead to irritation of the airways. Even with constant skin contact, eczema or other irritations can occur.

In adults, this is mostly insignificant and hardly noticeable. On the other hand, it becomes more critical when there are small children in the house. These can be more affected by chemical agents. Long-term damage cannot be avoided and the effects cannot always be foreseen.

Under certain circumstances, the agents can also pose a great danger to pets. Poisoning can have serious consequences, especially if the dog is very curious and swallows a chemical product.

If the chemical agents penetrate the groundwater through the garden, it can become inedible. To avoid these consequences, gentler methods should be used. There are more and more pesticides on a natural basis that are more environmentally friendly but still work effectively against pests.

Environmentally-friendly pest control in the garden

When it comes to plants, aphids can attack them. In order to protect plants from aphids, the health of the plants should be paramount. If these can already be found on the plants and trees, then there are numerous effective environmentally friendly home remedies for aphids. With a little soapy water and a spray bottle, the aphids can be washed off the leaves, for example. Essential oils and certain smells are also said to be effective against the aphid.

Keep the food pest out of the kitchen

April 27, 2021 0

The danger is less than might be assumed, but the infestation with bread beetles is certainly annoying and disgusting. It’s not just bread that can be infested. Even the small insects do not stop at tea, muesli or spices. The tricky thing is that you don’t notice a bread beetle immediately, but often only when it starts a reconnaissance flight through the kitchen. We do not have to be careful about the reddish-brown mini-beetles, but the greedy larvae. So you recognize the annoying bread beetles and make them harmless.

Beetle minis under the microscope

With the naked eye, it becomes difficult to recognize the bread beetle right away. The reddish-brown plague spirit is only about three millimeters long. If the pests are in droves in the kitchen, you will be able to recognize them easily. Only those who take a closer look at a beetle will find out more details. If you look at the small wings with the magnifying glass, you can discover points and many small hairs on them.

In case of imminent danger, the bread beetle can pull its head in. Then only the body remains visible. Another typical characteristic are the sensors, which are greatly enlarged at the front end. In loose substances, such as your breakfast muesli, flour or dust sugar, the bread beetle often leaves sprouts. Cocoons can also be found. The actual damage comes from the white larvae, which are three to five millimeters in size. These nest easily in paper or cardboard packaging and do not shy away from thin plastic cans. The bread beetle also seems flexible in taste: biscuits, chocolate and even books and pictures are on the menu.

Are foods still edible with bread beetles?

If the bread beetle has done all the work, you will probably be overwhelmed with a whole stack of contaminated food. Don’t worry, it looks worse than it actually is. Infested foods can theoretically continue to be consumed. Those who eat the dead larvae will, at worst, absorb an extra portion of protein and may be reminded of the jungle camp.

Bread beetles are completely non-toxic, do not bite and cannot harm our health. Nevertheless, everything should aim to get rid of the pests quickly. This means that the storage of the affected foods is not really an option, because that is how you grow more generations of bread beetles, which is certainly not in your interest.

Fighting bread beetles – what to do?

If you have seen bread beetles swirling through your kitchen or discovered their bodies on the window sill, quick action is required. First of all, we need to identify the foods concerned. Small holes are visible on the packaging on closer inspection. There, the fully developed beetles have already sought their way to freedom. It can be assumed that there are still several larvae in the bags and boxes. Therefore, all suspicious-looking containers should go to the garbage.

The adult beetles fly through the room, but do not eat food. Nevertheless, the pests have to be eliminated in a timely manner, so that they do not multiply and the cycle begins from the beginning. If you want to make sure that no new beetles form in the remaining food residues, put them in the freezer overnight or put the food or items in the oven for two hours. The temperature should be 60 degrees.

Home remedies as weapons against bread beetles

Handling pesticides in the kitchen would not be a good idea. After all, you want to stay there and eat and cook. Therefore, gentle and effective home remedies are the better choice.

First of all, it makes sense to purchase suitable containers. Instead of thin plastic, airtight glass containers are the better solution. You have to reach a little deeper into your pocket, but you won’t make an acquaintance with bread beetle larvae in the future.

Kieselgur is suitable for the removal of bread beetles in the food cabinet. It is a substance that is completely harmless to us human beings, in fact nothing more than pure lime. The eggs and larvae of the pest are reliably killed. Kieselgur can be commercially available in powder form as well as as a spray. You can also go to organic pest control if you need help getting rid of the pests.

Environmentally Friendly House From YouTube

April 20, 2021 0

Building an environment-friendly home is an equally important theme for both homes for sale and homes built by architects. Environmentally friendly homes are all over YouTube. Get your inspiration and download it from Youtube mp4.

In this post, let’s take a look further at what we can do to add sustainability to our homes.

Inspiration From YouTube: Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Houses

Install solar panels

Speaking of an environment-friendly house, I think it’s a solar panel. In the past, power generation efficiency was not very good, so it was thought that it would take time to recover the initial cost and it was not very eco-friendly, but in recent years, products with high power generation efficiency have also been developed mainly by domestic manufacturers.

It is said that it has become popular as an item that reduces the environmental burden. Since selling electricity is a topic that is currently attracting attention, it will also contribute to society with clean energy.

Take in sunlight from the skylight

Skylights are recommended as an environmentally friendly housing method that can be adopted from the architectural design stage. First of all, it can take in light, so it can reduce power consumption during the day. In addition, if the skylight can be opened and closed, it can create air circulation, so you can spend your time at home comfortably even in unpleasant seasons.

If you plan at the design stage, you should design it so that it can be opened and closed easily, and the place where the light comes in is a place where families gather. The effect of this also changes greatly depending on the size and placement balance.

Interior using natural materials

Proper use of natural materials is still a step towards building an environmentally friendly home. Natural materials not only reduce the environmental load but also have the effect of reducing the amount of dust because they are easy to maintain and can be repaired even if they are broken.

In the past, it was a material that was rarely used because of concerns about its strength, but in recent years it has been used in parts that are not related to proof stress, and it has the effect of being inexpensive and having an excellent design.

Take in nature from the garden

Connecting the living room and other spaces to the garden, it becomes an environmentally friendly house. In the first place, plants have the effect of making the air moderately humid and have the effect of weakening the shade of trees in the summer and the wind in the winter.

Adjust the indoor environment from the outer wall

The outer wall exposed to the external environment is affected in various ways depending on its material and color. For example, bright colors are more likely to reflect sunlight, while dark colors are more likely to absorb heat, depending on which season you are targeting, but if you want summer comfort to be bright and winter to be comfortable.

Choose a dark color. In terms of materials, concrete has the characteristic of being difficult to heat and cool, so it is said that if the concrete frame is completely cold, it will be difficult to heat even if heating is applied.

What Is The Greenhouse Effect, And How Does It Work?

April 13, 2021 0

Greenhouse gases such as CO2 occur naturally in the atmosphere. That is a good thing because otherwise, it would be much colder on earth. Greenhouse gases ensure that the heat from the sun is retained. Without greenhouse gases, it would be -18 degrees Celsius on average here. Due to the greenhouse gases, it is an average of 15 degrees Celsius. As a result, life on earth as we now know it is possible.

The earth is heating up
Many more greenhouse gases have been released into the atmosphere in the last 250 years. They retain extra heat, causing the temperature to rise for 140 years. Scientists call this the ‘enhanced greenhouse effect’. Most people just talk about “the greenhouse effect” when they talk about global warming. But they actually mean the extra greenhouse effect.

Heating mainly by humans
Humans are the main cause of global warming. Since the industrial revolution, we have been emitting more and more greenhouse gases. We use in factories, power plants, to heat our homes and for transportation. We cut down forests on a large scale that release CO2. And we keep more and more cows, sheep, and goats for meat and dairy. All these activities mean that there is now 40 percent more CO2 in the air than 250 years ago.

Why is it a problem?
Global warming is changing our climate. This has all kinds of consequences: for example, the sea level is rising, the weather is becoming more extreme (heavy rain showers, more heatwaves), and some parts of the earth are becoming drier. You can read more about this on the page Climate change.

Which greenhouse gases are there?
The main greenhouse gases are CO2, methane (CH4), nitrous oxide, and water vapor. CO2 is short for carbon dioxide. It is also referred to as carbon dioxide. The two main sources of CO2 are fossil fuels and land-use change. A long time ago – in early geological eras – carbon dioxide was captured by trees and other organisms. Ultimately fossil fuels (petroleum, coal, natural gas) were formed from this. The CO2 is released again when these fossil fuels are burned. In addition to emissions from fossil fuels, land-use change also causes CO2 emissions. Deforestation is taking place to make room for agricultural land, for example. The CO2 that is stored in the wood is released into the air. Peat soils can also release CO2 when they dry up. This is because peat soils contain large amounts of plant residues, which can be converted into CO2 if the water level drops too far.

  • Methane (CH4) is mainly released in livestock farming. Cows, sheep, and goats produce methane when digesting food. That methane comes into the air through their breath, burps, and farts. Also, methane is released during rice cultivation and from waste dumps. Methane is a strong greenhouse gas: 1 kilo of methane has the same effect as 28 kilos of CO2.
  • Nitrous oxide (N2O, nitrous oxide) is mainly released from soil fertilized with artificial fertilizers or animal manure. Laughing gas is a very strong greenhouse gas: 1 kilo of laughing gas has the same effect as 265 kilos of CO2.
  • Water vapor is also a greenhouse gas. Global warming makes the air warmer, and warm air can contain more water vapor. Because water vapor is a greenhouse gas, that extra water vapor in the air causes more warming, allowing the air to contain even more water vapor, warming the earth even further, and so on. In this way, the greenhouse effect of water vapor amplifies itself. There is nothing people can do or do not do to control the amount of water vapor in the air.
  • Fluorine gases are the strongest greenhouse gases on the planet: they can cause thousands of times more warming than CO2. Well-known fluorine gases are HFCs and PFCs that can occur in aerosol cans, air conditioners, and refrigerators, among other things. The most powerful fluorine gas is SF6, which is used as an insulating gas in the electricity grid. SF6 causes 22,800 times more warming than CO2.

CO2 is the most important greenhouse gas
Of all the greenhouse gases emitted by humans, CO2 is the most important. More than half of the increased greenhouse effect is caused by CO2. Methane is in second place with 16%. Water vapor is also an important greenhouse gas, but humans do not release it into the air themselves.

Understanding Global Warming On A Globa Scale

February 25, 2021 0

Due to the causes accumulated over hundreds of years, extreme weather is now affecting us. If this situation continues, our lives and the survival of the creatures living on the earth will be jeopardized. To prevent this from happening, we are taking various measures around the world, but there are also things that each of us can do.

Mechanism of global warming

The first thing you need to know as a major premise is the transfer of heat during the day and night. The light and heat emitted by the sun warm the surface of the earth during the day. This causes the temperature to rise during the day, but at night the sun does not shine and the temperature drops. At this time, the heat stored on the surface of the earth is released to the outside of the earth, so the temperature gradually begins to drop at night. This is the original change in temperature, but these have not been done properly in recent years. Since the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases have been retained in the atmosphere on Earth. Excessively released greenhouse gases accumulate heat that should normally go out of the earth at night, causing normal temperature drops and rising average temperatures.

Causes of global warming

As mentioned above, greenhouse gases are the main cause of global warming. Greenhouse gases also have a cause in our lives. The first direct cause is the use of automobiles. In many countries around the world, including Japan, automobiles are indispensable for transportation, but the number of automobiles will increase, which will cause traffic congestion.

Gasoline is the fuel for automobiles, and if it is burned, carbon dioxide will be generated, which will increase the factors that cover the earth as greenhouse gases. As traffic jams increase, so does idling, which increases the amount of time it takes to release carbon dioxide. The expansion and deforestation due to farmland, deforestation of tropical rain forest in the tropics is also a big factor.

Plants absorb carbon dioxide, but forests, in particular, consume large amounts of carbon dioxide. However, deforestation will not reduce carbon dioxide and will continue to increase as a greenhouse gas. The main indirect cause is the use of electrical appliances.

Electricity is required to use electrical appliances. This electricity is produced at a power plant, where coal and oil are burned. Carbon dioxide emissions account for 70% of greenhouse gases, but most of them are derived from such fossil fuels. Currently, Japan has no choice but to rely on such thermal power generation, and if we continue to use a large number of electrical appliances, the number of greenhouse gases will increase accordingly.

In addition, chlorofluorocarbons, which are used as refrigerants in air conditioners and refrigerators, and methane are generated from food waste and paddy fields, which are also part of greenhouse gases.

Are Video Games Harmful To The Environment?

December 24, 2020 0

Are you a gamer? Then you belong to the 34 million nationwide who regularly reach for a computer game. But what about the environmental impact – is gaming sustainable?

Many visitors are flocking to the world’s largest trade fair for the video game industry – in terms of exhibition space and visitor numbers – the Gamescom. In 2019, it took place at the exhibition center in Cologne with the motto “Cloud Gaming”. It run from August 20th to 24th. Cloud gaming or “Gaming as a Service” means playing video games over a server. The servers require electricity that has to be generated – and not always environmentally friendly. However, sustainability is not an issue at the fair, although the gaming industry is now larger than the film or music industry.

Games are more popular than ever

Video games are becoming increasingly popular. In Germany alone, according to the Association of the German Games Industry, over 34 million men and women play games on a daily basis. 48 percent of gamers are female, 52 percent male at the average age of 36. The trend continues to increase. Whether with game apps on mobile phones or with the family and friends playing games online at sites like https://www.yesgamers.com/diablo-2/runes or on the console playing the latest games by Nintendo. The variety of games contributes to further spread. But storage space is necessary for the games: According to a forecast by Statista, the data volume is expected to increase to around 180 billion gigabytes by 2022 – four times the previous consumption.

Environmental pollution increases

The increasing demand for storage space and thus computing power increases power consumption and consequently also the environmental impact. According to a study by Springer Science and Business, gamers worldwide consumed around 75 billion kWh of electricity in 2015. That corresponds to about one-sixth of the annual German electricity consumption. The numbers are also rising sharply due to mobile consoles and smartphones. New technologies such as the 5G cellular standard are contributing to the progress. They support the current gaming trends e-sports, virtual and augmented reality as well as cloud gaming services such as Google Stadia or PlayStation Now.

New concepts needed

To counteract the growing environmental pollution, energy-efficient and sustainable IT infrastructures are required. For example, a hot-water direct cooling enables people to benefit from the heat waste of data centers to add heat to buildings and for connecting to district heating networks. This technology reduces CO2 emissions and at the same time saves cooling and heating costs. Other data centers around the world want to take advantage of the technology to reduce the environmental impact of gaming.

Explain environmental protection to children: Tips & inspiration

December 17, 2020 0

Environmental protection and sustainability are major issues nowadays. But it’s not just adults who think about climate protection, waste avoidance, biodiversity, or renewable energies. The younger generation also deals with questions relating to the environment. Environmental protection for children is therefore important and is also frequently taken up in kindergartens and schools. In this way, even the little ones gain an awareness of how they deal with living spaces and resources.

Explain environmental protection to children in an age-appropriate manner

If you want to explain environmental protection to children, you should pick up the little ones where they are. Examples from the experiences of the children are helpful to illustrate sustainability. For example, you and your kids can think about which types of fruit grow in your region maybe even in your own garden.

Informing about environmental protection together

Explaining environmental protection in a way that children can understand is sometimes not that easy. Because even adults do not always have all the facts on the subject at hand. But that’s not bad at all. Because it can even be a lot of fun to get information together with the little ones. Whether you look up terms together or find out more about everyday tips and child-friendly environmental projects – every step towards greater environmental awareness helps. Even when looking for car parts online such as, it is good to think about environmentally friendly products.

Set an example of environmental awareness

The best way for the little ones to learn environmentally friendly behavior is to use role models. You can be a good example to your kids and pay attention to sustainability in your everyday life. There are opportunities to practice environmental friendliness in every household.

Environmental protection for children: small projects

Child-friendly environmental projects are great for making environmental protection tangible for children. Suitable projects are now being implemented in many kindergartens and schools. For example, some classes collect rubbish in forests or green spaces and thus help to counteract environmental pollution. Such actions encourage an appreciative view of the planet.

Explore nature

Excursions into nature are also a good basis for discussing environmental protection for children. In the forest or in a nature reserve, you can bring the little ones into contact with nature. This can help to sensitize them to their environment and to promote a positive attitude towards nature.
